How Apple is making incredible money?

There is no doubt that Apple is making incredible money. In fact, for the first time in the last quarter, they exceeded one hundred billion dollars in revenue. But the most interesting thing is that they have a lot of cash. Almost 200 billion, more than any other companying the world. That’s a whopping 180 from where they were two decades ago. When Apple had just escaped bankruptcy.

So how did they manage to make so much money so quickly to become the most valuable company in the world? Well that’s what I’ll explain in this article. Alright now one of the biggest reasons Apple is doing so well today, is due to their business strategy, which was way ahead of its time.

How Apple is making incredible money?

In the 1980s, computer companies like Microsoft made money by allowing their operating system. But Jobs refused. Instead hedging his bets on hardware sales .It is believed that you can create a great product only if you have control over the hardware and software. And you can only charge a hardware bonus if it’s objectively better than the competition.

The problem with this strategy in the 80sand 90s, was that most customers didn’t see the difference between Macs and PCs. At least not enough to justify the Mac’s higher price. As a result, Apple controlled only a small portion of the computer market. Thus, their focus on integrating and updating hardware and software would be even more important for consumers as the industry moves to mobile phones.

Apple first caught a glimpse of this withMP3 players. There were many cheap models on the market, but their iPod managed to escape. Eventually, it occupies almost eighty percent of the music player market. And that’s because optimization is key to battery life, portability, and ease of use.

With something that Apple already had experience with, other companies like Sony and Microsoft didn’t. Navigating your iPod with a click button made it easy to browse your music. His implementation program was practical and easy to understand. And adding music was easy, because almost everyone was familiar with iTunes.

I’m not talking about the iTunes music store that works continuously with the iPod. Apple designed their hardware to operate flawlessly with their software which operated flawlessly with their services. And consumers are beginning to realize the true value of iPod integration.

Which is why they didn’t mind paying a premium for the device, even though there were alternatives for half the price. The high profitability and sales of the iPad contributed to Apple’s enormous growth from 2001 to 2007, where the company grew by almost 25-100 percent annually.

This was the beginning of Apple’s most profitable era. And they had a unique opportunity to do what no other technology company could do; that is, creating an ecosystem where every product becomes a wild success. This was crucial to Apple’s explosive growth.

They couldn’t simply release new products that sold sportive well, like the Macintosh in its early days. They needed each device to model like the iPod, which controlled their market with high gross margins to distribute revenue. And that’s exactly what happened. Apple went very fast and released the iPhone in 2007.

It became a quick hit and immediately boosted Apple’s annual revenue. But the iPad, released three years later, took things to a whole new level. Everyone expected the Apple tablet to cost at least a thousand dollars. So when Steve Jobs announced it’s starting price of five hundred dollars, the hype surrounding the product grew even more than with the iPhone.

By the time it went on sale, the iPad had become the best -selling consumer electronics in history. By 2011, Apple had more than $ 100 billion in revenue. They will be the most important company in the world. This happened two weeks after Jobs resigned as Apple CEO.

Which means it’s pretty much impossible to find new customers, and you can only make money from existing customers upgrading the devices they already own. Apple has tried to fix this by focusing on single emerging markets such as China and India, where their products are unknown.

But due to the price sensitivity of these countries. Sales of Apple products did not increase as they had hoped, and a new strategy was needed to increase revenue. So Apple took two approaches: first, was the decision to increase prices of almost every product in their lineup.

This, for the most part, took place in 2018. When the iPhone and iPad’s base price increased by fifty dollars, the Apple Watch by seventy dollars, the Mac mini by three hundred, and the Mac Book Air by two hundred. These price increases were pure profit for Apple, as the cost of manufacturing these products remained largely the same.

Second, it was to focus on growing their business with their services. Which allowed Apple to take advantage of their user experience along with recurring monthly payments. This is what led to the emergence of Apple TV Plus, Apple Arcade, Apple News Plus and Apple Fitness Plus.

How Apple is making incredible money?

These services were also very lucrative as their costs were fixed no matter how many people signed up. So how effective are these strategies in generating revenue for Apple? Well, after all of the prices increases of2018, Apple had their most successful year since 2015, totaling 265 billion in revenue.

Apple News plus launched in March 2019, the Apple Card in August 2019, Apple Arcade in September 2019, and Apple Fitness Plus in December 2020. Dissatisfaction with the new service has increased the company’s revenue. Setting a new annual record in 2020, at over274 billion dollars.

But with the exception of the latest blockbuster product from Apple, I would like to see the latest version of the Consumer Data. Although they do employ some targeted ads on their News app and App Store. It’s on an extremely a small scale and collects much less data than companies like Facebook or Google. And I think Apple deserves some credit forth is. User data has become more valuable than oil, and Apple could begin fracking their user base at any time to generate tens of billions in extra revenue. Understand that they are in a unique position to pay more for their products by providing advanced knowledge and treating their users with respect by handling their private data responsibly. Sony is one of the OGs of the mobile industry. Just like LG Sony has been making phones for over 2 decades now. And just like them, Sony has been struggling with their mobile division. But unlike LG, Sony isn’t throwing their towels yet. But instead making their voices heard by pushing lot of other nice specs that are relatively hard to come by on other Android phones.

 The first smartphone to have a 4K HDR OLED display

Sony has announced their latest flagship the Sony Xperia 1 mark 3 that one-ups the best Android phone at the moment the Galaxy S21Ultra in many key features. The first one is the display. The Xperia 1 Mark 3 is the first smartphone to have a 4K HDR OLED display that can do a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s locked at 120Hz, though unlike the variable refresh rate we see on other devices.

To be honest, 4K on a smartphone is a little overkill. In my opinion, it’s hardly worth paying extra for considering you’re not going to tell the difference between a 4K and a QHD display on a smartphone. But nonetheless, 4K at a 120Hz refresh rate is still impressive.

The second feature this phone has that nonother phone can do is actually hidden beneath those bezels. At first glance, the phone looks identical to the original Xperia 1. It’s tall and narrow, with lots of glossy lack. And small curves on all the angles. Giving them the most monolithic look of smartphone today with some bezels at the top and bottom of the display.

But those small bezels are there for a good reason since they house the world’s first front-facing stereo speakers on a smartphone to offer 360 Reality Audio. Producing 40% more output than the previous model. To be honest, even though the phone looks dated but I still like the design.

It helps them stand out from the crowd of same-looking Android phones out there. This phone also has a new variable tele photo camera bringing another world’s-first. It has a periscope zoom camera module like the one found on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

However, the internal elements of the lens can be moved. To change the focal length to 70 mm or 105 mm for optical zoom. That’s 3x and 4.5x zoom if you don’t understand the focal length. Samsung offers the same benefit with the S21Ultra, but it has two separate telephoto sensors.

So with this new tech, Sony is achieving the same effect with one sensor whereas it took 2 separate ones for Samsung and Huawei. Other Sony camera features like real-time tracking and eye autofocus, AI Super-resolution zoom for photos are all there.

Also similar to the Xperia Pro, this phonecam be used as an external monitor for a dedicated camera. There’s also the more standard fare like Snapdragon 888, 12GB RAM, wireless charging, and 4500mAh battery. Sony is also the last mainstream brand to offer a headphone jack. And a microSD card with this phone which is highly appreciated.

All in all, on paper, all of this sounds really great but the price plays a big factor as well. Sony has struggled mightily to gain any measurable market share due to higher prices than is the norm for even flagship Android phones. We still have no word on the prices. But If Sony can price this handset competitively. And with some good marketing (both are begins) it has a chance of not going the way of LG. How to Turn Sea Water Into Fresh Water Without Pollution

In January 2021, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman released a video announcing bold plans for the future. It was a keynote speech that looked all too familiar, a lot like the late Steve Jobs announcing a new smart phone era.

Yet instead of big tech, it’s all about future is tic urban development and utopian nation building. The plans are ambitious. A linear city stretching 170km with no roads, no cars and no pollution. This so-called civilization revolution will house over a million people. But there’s one major point that wasn’t addressed in the speech. A city of this size needs water, a lot of it. And we’re talking about one of the driest places on earth. Water scarcity is ubiquitous in the Middle East.

How to Turn Sea Water Into Fresh Water Without Pollution

In fact, while a global water crisis is looming over many countries, it’s affecting this region more than most. Exponential population increases and environmental impacts have led to the tricky situation of growing demand for an ever scarcer resource. To mitigate the problematic consequences, countries in the region have predominantly relied on an expensive and highly controversial measure: desalination.

The principle of the manmade desalination process is simple. You suck water out of the ocean, separated from its salt and deliver the fresh water wherever it’s needed, mostly for human consumption or irrigation. Until now, there have been two main ways of doing this: Thermal desalination is the more traditional method involving heating up salt water and then cooling the vapor to make fresh water.

The other, more sophisticated and dominant technology on the market is called reverse osmosis. Using high pressure, salt water is pushed through a semi-permeable membrane to separate the salt. RO membrane systems typically useless energy than thermal desalination. However, both methods still come at a huge cost, both economical and environmental.

The economic costs stem from the high energy demands of desalination, which were linked in turn to a global environmental cost, dependent on how the energy was produced. In the Middle East, his mainly means fossil fuels. Desalination plants are responsible for a combined output of 76 million tons of CO2 per year.

A number that’s expected to be almost three times higher by 2040. On a local scale, the main issue is the byproduct of desalination: hyper saline brine. After extracting fresh water, the brain is usually pumped back into the ocean. As it’s much denser than seawater, it sinks to the bottom where it can damage ecosystems by spiking salt content and causing oxygen levels to plummet.

All this means that countries traditionally only resort to desalination if there are simply no alternatives available or they need to become independent from a regionally disputed water source. Egypt, for example, is betting heavily on expanding its desalination industry due to rapid population growth and growing fears of Nile droughts.

Desalination is meant to ease tensions with upstream Ethiopia over the massive GERD dam project and to fill the already existing gap. Across the border, in Israel, drought and over pumping have brought the biblical Sea of Galilee to an extreme low.

The inland sea is Israel’s biggest freshwater reservoir, and its low level is now starving the downstream River Jordan and the Dead Sea. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government sees the solution in desalination. The intention is to pump desalinated water from the Mediterranean to the Sea of Galilee and simply refill it.

Desalination is booming. The number of seawater desalination plants in operation worldwide has more than doubled since the early 2000s. Today, more than 300 million people globally get their water from this technology. A total of 173 countries run desalination plants, but the leader of the pack is with out doubt Saudi Arabia, by far the largest of the few countries in the world without a single river.

Its coasts are densely stocked with desalination plants. Together, they produce more fresh water than any nation. A fifth of the world’s total. At al-Jubail, the world’s largest desalination plant produces more than 1.4 million cubic meters of water a day and provides the country’s capital with fresh water.

With very little fresh water at its disposal, yet awash in oil money, Saudi Arabia uses fossil fuels to generate the vast amount of electricity needed. The country also has to cope with huge amounts of waste from this energy intensive industry. Under current RO technology standards, it takes two gallons of seawater to make a gallon of fresh water. The gallon left behind is brine pumped back into the ocean. But all this is supposed to change.

NEOM is Saudi Arabia’s ambitious flagship giga-project, a 500 billion dollar investment in a country within a country located in the sparsely populated northwest along the shores of the Red Sea. Among its key concepts are sustainability and environmental responsibility.

But what’s the substance behind these fancy catch phrases when it comes to supplying the huge demand for a scarce resource like fresh water in the desert? The solution is supposed to bean innovative technology that looks like this: a sphere formed by galas and steel dome rising 25 meters into the air, which covers a cauldron of roughly the same size.

The so-called “solar dome” was developed by the UK based company Solar Water in association with Canfield University. The theory behind it is actually quite simple. Sea water is piped through glass enclosed aqueduct system, which feeds the water with sunlight as it travels into the dome. An array of parabolic mirrors concentrates the solar radiation onto the dome.

This superheated the seawater in the cauldron where it evaporates. As a result, highly pressurized steam is released and condenses as fresh water, which is then piped to reservoirs and irrigation channels. The solar dome is meant to produce30,000 cubic meters per hour at an extremely low cost of 34 cents per cubic meter. All of it 100 percent carbon neutral. But there’s still the issue of the hyper saline brain.

Supposedly, the desalination process in NEOM reduces the total amount of brine created during water extraction, helping to prevent damage caused to marine life by not discharging any brine into the sea. Yet so far, the question of what really happens to the concentrated brine is still unanswered. Solar Water alleges that it can be extracted and sold commercially.

The brine contains substances that can be put to good use in other industrial processes. It still remains to be seen whether this actually works and whether the plan to create a commercially viable extraction of resources for other industries will succeed. The first solar dome is currently under construction to be trialed on an industrial scale.

NEOM solar desalination project will serve as a test case for other water scarce countries that are struggling to generate environmentally safe and sustainable sources of fresh water. Solar Water’s vision is bold: carbon-neutral agriculture and reforestation in the middle of the desert.

It’s hard to predict how much of this vision will turn out to be true. NEOM will certainly put it to the test with the first solar dome desalination plant planned for completion in 2021. Desalination, despite all its issues, isn’t going anywhere. As it gets cheaper and water scarcity becomes ever more threatening, the industry will continue to grow. And countries in the Middle East will rely on it totally.

There’s a separate RGBLED in the little fan, are you kidding me? Everyone and their dog is getting into the gaming phones space now, but not everyone designs their gaming phone for competitive eSports play, that’s right. No, no, stop it, stop it.

This is an eSports phone,

and, there is legitimately some stuff about it that is straight up very, very cool. This is the Lenovo Legion Duel Phone 2, not dual phone, it’s just one phone, duel like (imitating battle noises) I’m fighting with you, that kind of cool stuff.

It’s got a Snapdragon 888 processor, up to 18 gigabytes of LPDDR5 memory, up to 512 gigabytes of UFS3.1 storage, and get this, it’s got an active cooling system for its vapor chamber cooler, that’s got a 12,500 RPM fan here and then a 15,000 RPM fan at the top for exhaust, so yes, my friends, you are looking at holes in the phone here and here for flipping cooling.

And apparently they havere thought the layout of the internals of this phone, so all the heat producing devices are kind of all aligned along this cooling path. They claim that the air heat sup as much as 22 degrees going from the intake to the exhaust.

This thing is crazy.

Like, yeah, the ROG phone is for gaming or whatever, but this is clearly meant to be held like this, I mean, even if I’m taking a picture. So it’s got 63 megapixel cameras, and 16 megapixel rear snappers on it, like if I’m taking a picture with this thing, I’m holding it like this, like a freaking camera.

Okay, we’re, you know what? We’re going to straight up open the camera right away here.  What’s up? (camera clicking) – Look at this guy waving in a picture and now I got a blurry hand to look at it. However, the point is, the rear camera is not the most important event here, the main event is a pop-out selfie camera.

Power battery

That’s right, you cannot be a legit pro gamer unless you have a face cam while you’re gaming. Man, this thing is a chunky boy though, which makes sense, when you’ve got an active cooling system with not one, but two fans, a 5,500 milliamp power battery that is split into two, and charges at up to 90 Watts.

And of course, like any self-respecting gaming phone, it’s got dual forward facing speakers, so hopefully it’s going to sound pretty decent.

hat’s a bit of a slow finger print scanner, but let’s see how it performs when, okay, that’s fine when you’re unlocking, just a little slow to register your fingerprints, so that’s pretty good.

All right, so let’s just- There it is, look at that. That’s pretty good. – Wait, it’s on the, hold on a second, are you kidding me? It is on the lock button, so it… Like what? That is crazy.

Why would you put the camera right on the lock button? Yeah, I don’t know, if you want the lock button positioned for right-handed people, and then if you want sort of, the landscape mode, to be kind of a sensible.

You want the volume rocker out of the way while you’re gaming, so you got your shoulder buttons and stuff, I mean, I guess that’s just where it has to go.

As a PC enthusiast, it drives me crazy how much better the front facing cameras are on phones. Like, are you telling me, computer programmers, that you couldn’t find a way to install such a thick camera in your laptop? – Impossible?- Yeah.

What about the processing, though? – Okay, Intel, are you telling me that processing cannot be fixed? Okay, it can’t be better? At any rate, wow. That is a lot of smoothing. I am beautiful.

Holy madness, look at that, my pores are a beautiful picture. How much you want to bet that I straight up do not have wrinkles when I smile on this thing?

Wow. Oh, beauty mode, you so silly. That is super cool, and I think they did a bang up job of getting the length of the lens just right for a face camera while you’re gaming.

But of course, there’s more to this that makes it a gaming phone than just performance, cooling, and a front facing camera, starting of course, with all of the touch sensitive buttons that are located around the device.

So on each top you’ ve got two trigger buttons or, well there’s two shoulder buttons because neither of them is pressure sensitive, so you got one, two, three, four. You’ve got an additional touch sensitive button on the back of the device, which I believe is, you know what?

I’m going to have to find that a little bit later. And then finally, this is super cool, they’ve gone and they’ve put a more advanced hepatic motor system in this phone so that you’ve actually got two pressure sensitive button son either side of the screen. I am really excited to try that out.

Naturally, there’s RGB lighting.

Hey. All right. So it’s got a 144 Hertz display, but there’s more to the responsiveness of a mobile phone display than just how quickly it refreshes. It actually pools for touches at 720 Hertz, so that means that when you touch the screen, by pooling more often, it’s getting the most up-to-date possible information so that your inputs are going to have less latency. 720 Hertz.

Yeah, that’s pretty cool. – We’re getting dangerously close to like PC peripherals. Now, touch screens are inherently not as responsive as something like a mouse or a keyboard input device, but we can improve that a lot by pooling more frequently. Oh my God, hold on a second, this is hilarious.

 I’m just going to enable turbo fan here. This is cool, so you can change your lighting effects depending on what’s going on, so it can play with their music app, which I don’t know if you would use that much cause you probably have Spottily, or whatever.

Color changes by device temperature when you get calls, cool. When having did lights on your phone become not cool anymore? Remember those cool apps where you could have like anyone that had an RGB LEB this is back in like the Nexus 5 days, right? Yeah, the little top LED.

So you could have like color coded and flashes and stuff. What was that app called? No way, that’s a separate RGB LED in the little fan. Are you kidding me? To Lenovo Legion’s credit, the design is really well balanced.

They said that, like we saw on the ROG Phone 5, they split the battery apart, so this is better for battery longevity, as well as for the balance of the device.

And, talking about battery longevity, yeah, it’s all fine and good to be able to charge your device to 50% in 13 minutes, but you also have to have protections in place for your battery.

Of course, there are two Type-C ports, there’s one that you can use horizontally, and one that you can use vertically. You want to make sure that you’re not just juicing it up to a hundred percent and leaving it there the whole time while it’s running an intensive application, like a game and heating up, cause that’s really bad for the battery.

So, they’ve got phalanx battery protection system, not to be confused with phallus battery protection system which is more common in adult toys. Should we fire up some COD?

Look at that, panoramic stereo sound, 144 Hertz, this displayed will do up to1300 nits peak brightness, it’s just shy of seven inches, 6.92 inches, and as a 1080P class display, 2460 by 1080.

Now that I know how to do it, this is fairly intuitive, it’s not bad. So you go wide triggers. See, I just didn’t realize you can move these things around. Let’s see how it handles screen recording while playing. Okay, let’s rampage, I think rampage, Oh wow, high-speed mode. I mean, this game’s locked at 30 to 60 FPS anyway, but there are games that do run at a higher frame rate.

Man, having all those extra functions bound to the touch buttons at the back and stuff, not bad. And you what? to it’s credit, I’ve been sitting here playing for… I don’t know, what 10,15 minutes at this point? It’s barely even warm to the touch, here is.

So this is where they put all the heat generating components, and even with the fans running, like it’s warm, but the sides where my hands are, not bad. Hold on, Let me see how many of these bots I can line up and kill it at the same time.  They just stand there.

Oh man, I still can’t kill them, it’s shocking. Like are they pointing at the ground? Watch them. Watch them, watch them, let’s see where he shoots. Where are you shooting, dog? Look at this guy, look, he’s shooting at the ground. I mean, if the idea of gaming is to make you feel like an unstoppable bad-ass, this is going to do the trick for ya.

It’s like I might as well be Darth Vader fighting like Ewoks.

Like an army of Ewoks, like Jar Jar Binks sized Ewoks Or you Ewok-sized Jar Jar Binks’, what would be worse?

I’m impressed, the display looks freaking great, they boast, what is that? 110% coverage of DCI-P3 or something like that, 111. Pretty darn impressive.

The sound is great, HDR 10 plus. If you’re into gaming, hey, this is looking pretty compelling. Man, that middle part really is toasty, like this thing is freaking, it’s going, man. Oh, I just realized I never actually finished doing the un boxing. It comes with two USB C-to-C cables. What else we got here?

The thing is freaking heavy. Hold on a second, do you have to plug both freaking cables in to get the max output? Are you kidding me? Am I understanding this correctly? Okay, what else we got? Stylish outside. Oh God, yeah, that’s not what I would describe as stylish outside. Everything else about this has been great so far. Look at that, Type-C to headphone jack, how hard was that, Apple? Really hard apparently, SIM

. Oh, I didn’t even mention it has dual SIM slots. So we’ve got a SIM removal tool and that’s it for the accessory package. Man, this really puts the brick in power brick, this thing. This is a really cool device. Now that gaming phones have been through their first couple of, sort of, yeah, does this really need to exist? If it does, not really in this form kind of iterations.

(sighing) It’s getting to the point where like, honestly. If most of what you did was game on, you know, a mobile device like an Android device. There’s a lot of gaming to be done on this, and the price doesn’t even seem that outlandish compared to another mobile gaming console. Like, I mean, well, really there’s only the Switch, and Switch Lite, Switch Lite, Switch Lite.

Why Apple Won’t Make A Smart TV | WorldJobs

Apple makes the most successful tech production the industry. They’ve released one hit after another, from smart phones to smart watches. But one product that’s noticeably absents a smart TV. Which is sort’ve strange considering Steve Jobs essentially founded PIXAR, a movie company.

But it would make sense that Jobs would want to create the perfect television to watch PIXAR movies. But entering that industry just never made sense. And in this Blog, I’ll explain the reasons why.

Alright now let’s start off with one of the most important reasons why Apple won’t make a smart TV. And that is, the upgrade cycle is extremely slow. So called “industry experts” recommend upgrading your TV every seven to eight years. But the reality is, most people don’t replace their TV unless it breaks, or until there’s a big shift in display technology. Like upgrading from DLP to Plasma, then LCD, then LED, then OLED.

In fact, I’d go so far as to say TV purchasing habits are more similar to home appliances than tech products. If you move out and need a new microwave or fridge, you’ll buy one. But you won’t be waiting in anticipation for a new version to be released. Instead, you’ll use the one you already have until you’re eventually forced to replace it.

That’s almost exactly how people treat televisions, which is a huge problem for Apple. They want to compete in industries with fast upgrade cycles. Like computers, tablets, and smart phones. It’s much more difficult to use the same computer or phone for ten years than the same TV.

So Apple would be forced to find new customers every year to keep sales high, which is an uphill battle and much more difficult than simply selling upgraded products to existing users. But there’s another financial challenge to the TV industry.

Apple is used to margins of about 35% on hardware. And that’s actually quite good compared to other tech companies. But televisions are notoriously low-margin products, at about 10-20%. So when you combine low sales volume with low profit margins, you get an industry that simply isn’t worth Apple’s effort. ‘

But let’s say hypothetically Apple did create a high-priced smart TV that delivered their desired 35% margin, what exactly would make their model so special to command a substantially higher price?

A TV isn’t like a computer, phone or tablet. It doesn’t rely on an advanced operating system or constant user interaction. It’s just something you stare at while enjoying content. And while you can add a great software interface and an app ecosystem, that wouldn’t be nearly enough to justify a significantly higher asking price.

The number one feature television customers care about is the quality of the display panel. The contrast ratio, refresh rate, brightness, pixel density. All of these things take center stage in customer’s minds. And to be honest, it isn’t Apple’s area of expertise.

Although they do design some great displays for their products, the manufacturing is always handled by a third party like Samsung or LG. And these companies also happen to have a strong hold on the smart TV market.

So an Apple television would essentially be a Samsung panel in a slightly improved enclosure with some extra software features. And those marginal improvements simply aren’t enough. Apple already made this mistake with the Home Pod. It had the best sound quality of any smart speaker, a stunning design, and great integration with other Apple products.

Which brings me to the next challenge, differentiation. How would Apple make their TV stand out from all the rest? When it comes to design, the stand has become the only visual element that’s noticeably different between models.

Smart TVs all look virtually the same when mounted, so customers likely wouldn’t even care about an incremental design improvement. As I mentioned earlier, Apple could improve the operating system quite a bit and add an app ecosystem which would be valuable. They could also create a remote that’s more advanced and intuitive. And they could integrate other Apple products seamlessly.

Those would be the headlining features of Apple’s television that would differentiate it from others. But the thing is, almost all those improvements are software-based. With the only hardware being a remote. So it turns out that Apple doesn’t need to make a TV at all.

The software is what adds value for customers, not the display panel, stand, or power cable. And it just so happens that software is Apple’s area of expertise. And something they can do better than Samsung or LG.

But the best part, is that software is cheap. There’s no manufacturing costs, investment in laboratories or fabrication, and no huge boxes to ship or store in warehouses. That’s why Apple focused on creating TV software, instead of creating the TV itself.

People already had televisions, so it’s much easier to sell them a $150 box of software that transforms their TV experience, rather than a completely new three or four thousand dollar television. And that box of software is Apple TV. Which solves all of the problems I mentioned earlier. The product itself is tiny. So it’s cheap to manufacture and ship.

It doesn’t need lots of expensive components, so Apple can ensure a high profit margin. When it comes to upgradability, it’s fairly easy to entice users to upgrade a $150 box with valuable new features. Especially when you control the most important piece of hardware every TV needs, the remote.

Apple has already updated the Apple TV remote before, and they’re likely to do it again soon. They’ve also introduced new features like faster processors, 4K support, and Dolby technology. And if Apple ever adds Special Audio to a future model, they’ll be giving users a reason to upgrade again.
